Avant is a software and communications services company. They provide large groups of individuals with personalised communication that results in increased engagement.

Kennard Consulting helped Avant Solutions realise their vision to build a Web application for financial advisers that could process and generate employee superannuation reports. Each report was to run to some thirty pages, including detailed graphs and charts, and be delivered as a PDF. In addition, each report was to contain an auto-generated username and password for recipients of the report to log in, update their details and request a follow-up financial planning session.

By using the most cutting-edge Java technology, Kennard Consulting delivered a system able to produce over fifty thousand such reports a day, despite their complexity. The system employed Java EE entity beans for the back end, session and message-driven beans for the middle tier, Java Server Faces for the Web layer, a minimized attack surface guarded by a JSR-compliant rule engine to enforce fine-grained security, and a raft of supporting technologies including (in alphabetical order) AJAX, CSS, HTML, JAAS, JavaScript, JSP, JMS, SVG, SQL, XML, XSL-FO and XSL-T.
